The creator of Cash App and the former technology chief at Square, Bob Lee, has been stabbed to death by an unknown attacker in San Francisco. The unfortunate incident happened in the early hours of Tuesday, April 4, local time, and the police are still investigating the case to find those behind the crime. Bill Barhydt, the CEO of crypto wallet company Abra, was one of the first persons who shared the news after he tweeted about the death of the Cash App founder. In his tweet, he added a report from a local newspaper that gave details of how the incident happened.
In the tweet, Bill Barhydt said, "I just got devastating news that our friend Bob Lee (@crazybob ) was killed in SF early today.
Bob was a dad, the former CTO of Square where he created Cash App & CTO of Mobile Coin. He was a generous decent human being who didn’t deserve to be killed." In the tweet, he added a report from a newspaper describing how the incident happened. The local newspaper reported the death of the Cash App founder but did not provide his identity in the report.
Jack Dorsey also confirmed the news on Nostr (a new decentralized social media platform). While replying to a post that asked if the incident was real, the Twitter co-founder answered, saying, "It’s real. Getting calls. Heartbreaking."
Police Report on the Issue
In the early hours of the Bob Lee Square incident, San Francisco police released a statement confirming that a homicide had happened in a part of the city.
In their memo, the police force said, "On April 4, 2023, at approximately 2:35 a.m., San Francisco Police officers from Southern Station responded to the 300 block of Main Street for a report of a stabbing. Officers arrived on the scene and located a 43-year-old adult male victim suffering from apparent stab wounds. Officers rendered aid and summoned medics to the scene. The victim was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries. Despite efforts by first responders and medical personnel, the victim succumbed to his injuries."
The police also confirmed that no arrests had been made concerning the case. Instead, they reiterated that they are conducting an active investigation to fish out those behind the terrible act." This incident is being investigated by the SFPD Homicide Detail. No arrests have been made and this remains an active investigation," they added.
Reactions to Bob Lee's Death
People are terrified about the death of the Cash App founder. What makes it even more terrifying is that those behind the crime are yet to be arrested by the police. According to some, it is a profound concern that San Francisco is turning into a city where numerous stabbing and homicide cases go on without any traces. While reacting to the news, former UFC fighter Jake Shields tweeted saying it was rather sad that a high-profile tech executive like Bob Lee was killed.
"I just found out my good friend was killed last night while walking him in San Francisco
He was in the “good” part of the city and appeared to have been targeted in a random mugging/attack
Fuck San Francisco. I didn’t want to be the one to leak the name but now it’s out
Bob Lee is an extremely high-profile tech guy so hopefully, this will at least bring attention to these problems," Jake Shields said.
