Updated statistics from Bloomberg's Billionaire Index show that Zuckerberg's wealth increased by $73.4 billion in 2024, reaching $201 billion. There are just three other members of the elite $200 billionaire club, and Zuckerberg, the CEO of Meta is now the fourth and latest member of that club.

With a net worth of $201 billion, Mark Zuckerberg is also the fourth wealthiest person in the world, only after Tesla CEO Elon Musk ($272 billion), Jeff Bezos ($211 billion) of Amazon and Bernard Arnault ($207 billion), the CEO of Louis Vuitton-Moët-Hennessy.

Mark Zuckerberg is a household name to many netizens. From his college dorm room, Mark built Facebook into one of the world's most valuable enterprises. The bulk of customers' content consumption and interaction with one another is controlled by Zuckerberg via Facebook (Meta).

How did he amass such wealth? Keep reading to find out.

Mark Zuckerberg’s Bio

Mark Zuckerberg was born in White Plains, New York  on the 14th of May, 1984. As a child, he had a knack for operating computers. Although he attended a local college to study BASIC, he created an instant messaging software for his father's workplace when he was 12 years old.

Initially enrolled at Harvard University, Zuckerberg withdrew after his sophomore year to devote himself full-time to building Facebook.

Meta, previously known as Facebook, was co-founded, chaired, and led by self-taught computer programmer Mark Zuckerberg. In 2004, Zuckerberg, Andrew McCollum, Dustin Moskovitz, Chris Hughes, and Eduardo Saverin established the social media platform in a Harvard University dorm room under the moniker Facemash. Eight years later, Zuckerberg married Priscilla Chan and they have two daughters, Maxima(9) and August(7).

Mark Zuckerberg’s Wealth

In 2006, Yahoo! made an offer to acquire Facebook for $1 billion a year after the social network became public, but Zuckerberg quickly turned down the offer.  This vital decision  was quite instrumental to his financial growth and success. When Facebook raised $16 billion in its 2012 IPO (Initial Public Offering), it was the most successful IPO in the history of the Internet.

On October 28, 2021, Facebook made public their decision to rebrand as Meta. From social networking platforms to artificial intelligence (AI) firms, Meta has often been in the business of acquiring several successful companies. In 2012, Meta bought Instagram for $1 billion. In 2014, Meta acquired Whatsapp for $22 billion. And in the same year, Meta paid $2 billion for Oculus VR.

With over 345.5 million shares, Zuckerberg owns 13% of Meta, which accounts for the bulk of his fortune. Shares of Meta had risen to record highs of more than $560 each, accounting for roughly 60% of Zuckerberg's wealth growth since January 2024.

Tech Giants Who are Also Multibillionaires

The following are influential tech titans who have not only revolutionized the tech industry but also amassed multibillion-dollar fortunes, shaping the future of innovation and wealth creation.

Which of them are you familiar with?

  1. Jensen Huang (Nvidia CEO)
  2. Larry Ellison (Oracle co-founder)
  3. Bill Gates (Microsoft co-founder)
  4. Michael Dell (Dell)
  5. Sergrey Brin (Alphabet / Google co-founder)
  6. Larry Page (Alphabet / Google co-founder)
  7. Steve Balmer (Fmr. Microsoft CEO)

Final Remarks

It should be noted that Zuckerberg has overcome so much in the last several years to enter the $200 billion club, which, apparently, is a remarkable feat. He has led Meta through a transitional phase especially after the Metaverse turbulent era, which produced over a $100 billion loss in 2022. This was quite a bounce back!
