A big win for the NFT and crypto industry after Google Play permitted the use and integration of NFTs in their wallets. Google Play, like Apple Store, is a platform where apps are downloaded and shared. Unlike the IOS, Google Play was specifically created for Android devices.
The Google Play NFT policy came as a surprise, as well as a welcomed development for the NFT industry. In the past, before there was anything like Google Wallet NFT, the platform had several stringent rules which prevented developers and users from integrating any form of NFT on the platform. However, with the new policy, which was announced yesterday, developers now have permission to incorporate NFTs in their wallets.
"As a platform, we always want to help developers bring innovative ideas to life. Google Play hosts a variety of blockchain-related apps, and we know that our partners are excited to expand on these offerings to create more engaging and immersive digital experiences with tokenized digital assets such as NFTs. Like with any emerging technology, we must balance innovation with our responsibility to protect users. So, we’ve spoken with developers about responsibly supporting those opportunities while continuing to provide a safe, transparent, and trusted experience for everyone."
Android Users To get Rewarded in NFTs
So Google Play says they are trying to embrace the innovation that has come with the NFT industry. They want to make their platform more innovative by allowing developers and users to transact blockchain-based digital content within apps and games.
Google mentioned different avenues they plan to exploit to drive more user attraction and acceptance. By allowing NFT transactions to be made in the Google Play wallet, users can join loyalty programs and get rewarded with NFTs.
Google Play said they already have applications on their platform that are related to the blockchain. Making the use of NFTs open on the platform will drive increased user activity and open opportunities for both app developers and users.
Google Play said:
"Today, we’re pleased to share that we’re updating our policy to open new ways to transact blockchain-based digital content within apps and games on Google Play. From reimagining traditional games with user-owned content to boosting user loyalty through unique NFT rewards, we’re excited to see creative in-app experiences flourish and help developers expand their businesses."
Several Gaming Platforms Applaud Google's New Policy
It didn't take long for several gaming platforms to detect the new policy change and notice the opportunities it had for them. According to many platforms that have spoken about the new Google Play NFT policy, they think it will favor all the parties involved.
John Linden, CEO of Mythical Games, spoke about the new development, saying that the new policy will benefit both parties. He first thanked Google for finding a means of bringing innovation to their app-sharing platform. He added that the new policy will bring many opportunities while at the same time protecting consumers.
From Google, they said they will "continue to engage with developers to understand their challenges and opportunities — and how we can best support them in building sustainable businesses using blockchain technology." Nevertheless, many NFT and crypto enthusiasts see this new development as a massive win for the industry.
