Google has recently lifted a ban on NFT Google ads that was implemented in 2018. The reason behind this ban was that many of the ads contained misleading and gambling content. As a result, the tech giant had no choice but to prohibit such activities on their platform.

However, Google is now back with a new set of rules and regulations for NFT advertisers. It almost seems like a Google NFT marketplace but for advertisers. With this new policy change, blockchain-based games that offer NFTs will be able to run ad services, as long as they comply with the provided rules.

According to Google's announcement, they expect their new policy regarding NFT ads to kick off on September 15, 2023, five years after the initial ban in 2018. One of the things that Google was clear about was the issue of promoting gambling content. Any NFT advertisement that is found breaking these rules will be taken down.

"In September 2023, Google will update the Cryptocurrencies and related products policy to clarify the scope and requirements for the advertisement of blockchain-based games involving NFTs.

Beginning September 15, 2023, advertisers offering NFT games that do not promote gambling-related content may advertise those products and services when they meet the following requirements," Google clarified.

Google also expects advertisers to respect the rules and policies of their locality. "As a reminder, we expect all advertisers to comply with the local laws for any area that their ads target. This policy will apply globally to all accounts that advertise these products," the tech giant said.

And if you don't keep to these rules as an advertiser? Well, Google has a severe punishment. The digital platform says, "Violations of this policy will not lead to immediate account suspension without prior warning. A warning will be issued, at least 7 days, before any suspension of your account."

What Products Can People Advertise?

Google clarified the product type they want advertisers promoting on their platform. Their focus is seemingly focused on blockchain-based games that involve NFTs. They even made it clear how they want the game to look like.

The type of blockchain-based games Google wants to see on its platform are those where NFTs play a prominent role in the game. It is a line of games where you have different unique characters made up of NFTs.

Each character has different abilities based on the rarity of the NFT cards. Nevertheless, you must purchase these characters using native tokens or NFTs. Thankfully, Google announced earlier in July that it'd permit the integration of NFTs in Wallets. Google clarified that these NFTs will play a huge role in players advancing to several game levels. In the same way, Google clarified the type of NFT games they don't want on their platform.

Blockchain-Based Games Not Accepted by Google

Google has specified categories of games that are not allowed for advertising on their platform, including those involving gambling content.

Advertisements where the advertisers show games where social casino games that reward NFT are promoted, real money gambling, and wagering or staking of NFTs are prohibited, according to the new policies from Google.
