Aptos, Apecoin, and Optimism are among the major crypto projects set to unlock more tokens into their circulation. The Apecoin and other token prices might decrease when more tokens are unlocked. The price decrease will occur due to the dilution of its token circulation.
From past occurrences, unlocking more crypto-project tokens usually leads to a negative impact. But their prices are expected to bounce back due to the current sentiments in the market.
BTC price could also affect the probability of these token prices bouncing back. Several expert predictions say that the Bitcoin price outlook for Q3 is expected to be positive. Bitcoin price being positive could cause subsequent bullish trends in the market.
When Are Aptos, Apecoin, and Optimism Going to be Unlocked
Aptos, Apecoin, and Optimism tokens aren't unlocked on the same day. Aptos will be the first to unlock their tokens on the 12th of July. This information was released by Token Unlocks, a platform that tracks when crypto projects unlock more tokens.
According to Token Unlocks, approximately 4.54 million APT, worth about $33 million, will be released today. APTOs tokens to be unlocked today represent about 2.17% of the circulating supply.
At the time of writing, only about 17% of APTOs tokens have been unlocked from the total supply. To put it in a better perspective, APTOs have a total supply of 1,042,713,962, while the tokens in circulation are only about 209,061,786 APT.
Apecoin follows suit as more tokens will be unlocked 5 days after APTOs might have unlocked more tokens. Apecoin has a total supply of 1 billion, and only about 368,593,750 APE is in circulation. The tokens that will be unlocked on the 17th of July are about 15.60 million APE. Considering the massive APE tokens already in circulation, the unlocked tokens will only represent 4.23% of the circulating supply.
Optimism will be the last crypto project to unlock more tokens in July. The layer-2 scaling platform is expected to open more tokens to its circulating supply on the 30th. Approximately 24.16 million OP worth over $32 million at spot rates will be unlocked on this date. It will still represent a small percentage of the total supply even at this rate. Out of the 4,294,967,296 OP in total supply, only about 644,594,782 OP are currently in circulation.
What to Expect From the Token Unlock
Unlocking more tokens is thoroughly planned by the team members of a crypto project. Unlocking tokens usually happens within the direction of the vesting schedule of a crypto project. The vesting schedule is the time frame in which locked cryptocurrencies will be released to enter into circulation.
